Havila emerged in 1957 first as a fishing operation, expanding into shipping on the same route. The 1,489-nautical mile route has been dominated for the past 130 years by Hurtigruten, the heritage shipping line that has been connecting Norway’s far-flung coastal residents since 1893, more recently introducing tourists to the region.
